Warehousing

Central Stores-Warehousing is a branch within Business and Financial Services that provides warehousing services for employees on supported units. Between the main warehouse located at 1301 E. Dean Keeton Street in building FC3 and the J.J. Pickle Research Campus (PRC) warehouse located at 10100 Burnet Road, Central Stores staff maintains approximately 7,500 individual part numbers in active inventory with a total value of approximately $1.2 million.

Mission

The Warehousing team mission as an inventory management team is to ensure the availability of material when it is required, while at the same time not over-buying material that may not be fully consumed in the future. Minimizing the cost of material through active sourcing and awareness of market trends are key components to this process as well, ensuring that the total value of material in stock is controlled and the final price issued to the customer is fair, reasonable, and consistent with the open market.

Working with internal customers to identify the appropriate materials to keep in stock, in compliance with their specifications and quality needs, is critical. Materials that have repetitive and sustainable use are ideal candidates for stocking in the warehouse. Additionally, materials deemed critical to campus operations and/or long lead-time items are also good stocking candidates to mitigate interruption of vital campus services.

Customers are encouraged to work with the Central Stores team to identify materials that are needed so they can be added to the current stock, or to help identify materials that are obsolete so the may be removed from inventory. Customers may use the Request to Add/Remove Stock Form (PDF) for this purpose.
